A recent GfK report found that the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region offers a growing market for eyecare servicers, including opticians and retailers. The market is currently valued at US$2.67 billion, but the region’s growing and aging population will provide room for growth, particularly in e-commerce. Although the region has a 52% online penetration rate, only 25% of optical retailers in the UAE and Saudi Arabia have utilized the internet for sales. This creates a tremendous opportunity for those on the forefront of e-commerce and telemedicine as it relates to optometry. —AZ
