Grupo NotreDame Intermédica Acquires Rio’s SAMCI Hospital

With the purchase of Rio de Janeiro’s SAMCI hospital, the Brazilian provider network Grupo NotreDame Intermédica continues its expansion.

Grupo NotreDame Intermédica (GNDI), a Brazilian healthcare provider network controlled by private equity firm Bain Capital, has announced the purchase of SAMCI hospital in Rio de Janeiro. Serving over 3.6 million patients, GNDI is the third-largest private healthcare provider in Brazil and in the midst of an aggressive expansion. The purchase of the 80-bed SAMCI hospital marks the company’s fourth acquisition in just over a year and the first hospital in its portfolio to be located in Rio de Janeiro. The purchase brings the company’s holdings to a whopping 12 hospitals, 65 clinical centers and 9,000 employees, primarily located in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, though the network also has branches in the cities of Campinas, Jundiaí, Santos and Sorocaba. —AG
