U.S.-based Cleveland Clinic recently signed a management consulting agreement with a company that intends to build a hospital in Shanghai. The Cleveland Clinic has not yet identified the organization because the agreement is still in early development stages. No further details are yet available about the timeline or the magnitude of the project.
GW Plastics, a Vermont-based world-class plastics and silicone molding company, recently acquired Avenue Mould Solutions, an Irish precision molding company, to acquire its popular medical device OEMs. The acquisition will allow GW Plastics to supply advanced manufacturing capabilities to three continents.
Sengkang Health has announced its plan to open its 1,400-bed hospital campus, called Sengkang General and Community Hospitals, in the second half of 2018. The hospitals will house specialty clinics in related areas to improve waiting times for patients. Singapore’s Integrated Health Information Systems will supply telehealth technology for rehabilitation and video conferencing.
Moriah Hospital of São Paulo, Brazil, recently announced a string of new investments in high-tech medical equipment, including the Da Vinci Xi Robot used for robotic surgeries. Other investments include the purchase of a 3D scanner for the hospital’s Mammary Surgery Reference Center, marking the first acquisition of a 3D scanner in Latin America.
In an attempt to establish their presence in India, Hong Kong-based Fosun Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of Fosun International, acquired India’s Gland Pharma Ltd. for US$1.3 billion. The deal represents one of India’s largest inbound buyouts in the country’s pharmaceutical sector.
Some of India’s top hospital chains, including the Apollo Group and Fortis Healthcare, are looking outside India’s borders for opportunities to expand. The Channai-based Apollo Group has facilities in Bangladesh and Tanzania and has also consulted with hospital groups across Poland, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, the Antilles and Yemen. Likewise, rival Fortis is providing hospital management services to four hospitals in Ghana and Nigeria and has purchased stakes in two Mauritius hospitals.
